The new crossing includes a pedestrian refuge in the middle of the road to help them safely cross the two lanes of traffic and cleared roadside vegetation to improve visibility.
A crossing supervisor will also be provided at the site under the Victorian Government’s School Crossing Supervisor Program.
This is the second safety boost the Victorian Government has delivered for Newhaven College students this year, following the introduction of new electronic school speed zone signs earlier in 2019.
These improvements have been funded under the Government’s $5 million school road safety package that is aimed at improving high-risk roads near Victorian schools. The School Area Safety Fund package is in addition to a $18.9 million package to continue the School Crossing Supervisor Program across Victoria.
The project was delivered by the Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) Eastern Region Alliance, a partnership between RRV and Fulton Hogan.
