The $620,000 upgrade is being funded through the first round of the Victorian Government’s $100 million Fixing Country Roads Program, with a $60,000 contribution from council.

RRV Regional Director (Northern) Brian Westley said the works would enhance safety as well as making it more suitable for heavy vehicles.

“We’ve worked with City of Greater Bendigo on the intersection design, which will see the existing roundabout replaced with a stronger, reinforced one that better caters for heavy vehicles,” he said.

“There’ll also be new centre traffic islands to make it safer for pedestrians to cross, a new road foundation and surface, channel, kerb and drainage.” Mr Westley said.

City of Greater Bendigo Engineering Manager Brett Martini said the upgrade would enable greater access to the nearby industrial area.

“These design changes and safety improvements will now enable B-double trucks to use the roundabout and service the busy East Bendigo Industrial Estate,” he said.

“We’re grateful for the funding from the Victorian Government to undertake these works and are on track to have these completed by the end of February.”

City of Greater Bendigo and RRV are working closely together to minimise disruption in the area, with signed detours, road closures and temporary speed reductions in place until works are complete early in the new year.
