We’re a partner of the Adopt a Roadside program, which is operated by Keep Victoria Beautiful. Adopt a Roadside volunteers work on Victoria’s arterial roads to remove roadside litter.
Reducing roadside litter helps to stop pollutants from entering local waterways, improves the quality of vegetation and prevents soil degradation and erosion.
Learn about how Gippsland volunteers contribute to this important mission below.
Gippsland has 13 thriving volunteer groups involved in working bees to look after 32km of Gippsland arterial road.
Earlier this year, the Drouin, Warragul & Districts Apex Club held a working bee with six volunteers. Volunteers worked for an hour to collect 1500 kilograms of roadside litter.
Gippsland volunteers remove on average seven tonnes of roadside litter a year. That’s around 19 kilograms of litter per day! Volunteers can also help with tree planting and weed management.
