Flooding of the Goulburn River caused the temporary closure of McCoys Bridge for several weeks in October 2022. A 20-tonne load limit had been in place since November 2022 before it was increased to 42.5 tonnes in September 2023.

The progressive increase to the load limit has allowed engineers to observe and manage the performance of the bridge in a safe and controlled fashion. Increased monitoring and surveying of the bridge has also occurred during this period to closely track performance of the bridge.

The temporary 40km/h speed limit on the bridge will be retained. Surveyors will be inspecting the bridge throughout the coming months.

All road users are reminded to drive to the conditions and stay up to date on road closures and detours via the VicTraffic website.
