The Victorian Government has committed $3 million for the new roundabout at the intersection of Remembrance Drive and Madden Road.
During the five-year period between 2015 and the end of 2019, this intersection was the site of eight crashes resulting 16 people being injured.
Tragically, this has included one death and seven serious injuries.
Regional Roads Victoria (RRV), Victoria Police, the City of Ballarat and the Avenue of Honour Committee have worked together to identify a new roundabout as the preferred long-term safety upgrade to the intersection.
The new roundabout follows a range of upgrades already delivered at the intersection last year to immediately improve safety, including speed reductions, new dedicated turning lanes, and improved signage.
RRV is now in the early stages of planning and designing the new roundabout, with special consideration being given to the heritage and significance of the Ballarat Avenue of Honour.
