We’ll also install a roundabout at the Docwra Street and Midland Highway intersection and upgrade a pedestrian crossing to make it safer for families accessing the Magpie Primary School.

Update - May 2021

Service relocation works are expected to begin in the second half of 2021 before major construction in 2022.

We’ll update you before works begin and provide key dates and traffic management information.

Background

The Midland Highway forms part of Ballarat’s southern gateway in Sebastopol. Traffic includes commuters from the nearby Buninyong township that often use the Midland Highway to access central Ballarat and Ballarat West.

This section of the Midland Highway intersects with Docwra and Prince streets at Sebastopol. Vehicles using these local roads have limited opportunities to turn on to the Midland Highway during peak times. At its busiest times, approximately 1300 vehicles use the Docwra Street intersection each day. This is expected to increase by 15 per cent by 2041.

There were three crashes resulting in injury near this intersection between 2014 and 2019. With more traffic using this intersection and increased pedestrian activity from families accessing the nearby Magpie Primary School, a roundabout will improve intersection visibility and make it safer for all road users in this area.
