Overview

We’re investigating this key section of the McIvor Highway from Reservoir Road, Strathdale to Longlea Lane, Longlea to plan for future growth, ensuring that all road users experience a safe and efficient drive, ride or walk.

Update - November 2020

Our team is continuing to gather information to help develop potential concepts for McIvor Highway.

An important part of this project is to understand how students travel to and from school and how to encourage more walking and cycling for students. We want to hear from local parents and guardians about how their children travel to and from school if they attend:

  • Strathfieldsaye Primary School
  • St. Francis of the Fields Primary School
  • Victory Christian College
  • Catherine McAuley College.

If you are a parent or guardian of a student that attends one of these schools, please take our survey to help us develop our concepts for possible future improvements to McIvor Highway. The survey will close at midnight on Sunday 6 December.

This information will help us plan potential future upgrades to ensure that all road users experience a safe and efficient drive, ride or walk in Longlea, Strathdale, Junortoun and Strathfieldsaye.

Next steps

The feedback from community and stakeholders along with the results of our technical studies and modelling are feeding into concept solutions. We’re expecting to return to the community in early 2021 with potential concepts for comment. We’ll let you know how you can get involved when the concepts are released.

Details

McIvor Highway is a key route connecting Junortoun to Bendigo and Heathcote and is currently used by approximately 14,000 vehicles per day as well as active transport users (walkers and cyclists). The Victorian Government has provided $3.5 million to investigate options to increase capacity and safety for all road users.

Benefits

Improvements to this road would:

  • increase capacity
  • increase safety particularly for overtaking and intersections
  • provide active transport options for walking and cycling
  • improve freight efficiency
  • cater for future population growth.
