Overview

We’re investigating this key section of the McIvor Highway from Reservoir Road, Strathdale to Longlea Lane, Longlea to plan for future growth, ensuring that all road users experience a safe and efficient drive, ride or walk.

Update – September 2019

We’re working on several technical studies including traffic modelling and environmental assessments.

These studies, along with your feedback, will help us develop concepts that will then be considered for future funding opportunities to improve traffic flow, safety and active transport on this busy road.

Over the next few weeks we’re carrying out a traffic study in the area to track the typical journeys of vehicles through the study area. During this study you’ll see activity around the following locations:

  • Cashens Road
  • Domain Avenue
  • Junortoun Road
  • Longlea Lane
  • McIvor Highway
  • Pratts Park Road
  • Reservoir Road
  • St Vincents Road
  • Trotting Terrace
  • Wildflower Drive
  • Wilkie Road

Our ecology consultants have finished their winter observations. They’ll be returning in November to capture all spring movements of local bird species. These assessments will help us plan upgrades to the road while ensuring the local environment is considered.

Our hydrology study finished in July 2019. This study examines how catchments interact with the road corridors and the capacity of structures, culverts and bridges. It also tells us how current infrastructure is performing and allows us to consider how this will influence the upgrade design.

Details

McIvor Highway is a key route connecting Junortoun to Bendigo and Heathcote and is currently used by approximately 14,000 vehicles per day as well as active transport users (walkers and cyclists). The Victorian Government has provided $3.5 million to investigate options to increase capacity and safety for all road users.

Benefits

Improvements to this road would:

  • increase capacity
  • increase safety particularly for overtaking and intersections
  • provide active transport options for walking and cycling
  • improve freight efficiency
  • cater for future population growth.
