Overview

We’re investigating this key section of the McIvor Highway from Reservoir Road, Strathdale to Longlea Lane, Longlea to plan for future growth, ensuring that all road users experience a safe and efficient drive, ride or walk.

Update - October 2020

Our team is continuing to gather information to help develop potential concept solutions for McIvor Highway. Here are some of the things we’ve been working on:

Transport modelling

We’re considering all forms of transport as part of these development projects. In order to plan for what the transport network will need in the short and long term, we use modelling based on many different scenarios. This modelling will help us determine potential concept solutions.

From the modelling we’ve completed so far, we know that any changes on one road will impact the other so our concepts for each corridor will take into account how the interaction between the two roads will best serve all road users.

Active transport

Our team is still planning to gather some more information about walking and cycling. This includes surveying people walking and cycling at times of normal use. We had planned to carry out this surveying in March and April this year. We’ll let you know when we reschedule this work.

Next steps

The feedback from community and stakeholders along with the results of our technical studies and modelling are feeding into concept solutions. We’re expecting to return to the community in early 2021 with potential concepts for comment. We’ll let you know how you can get involved when the concepts are released.

Details

McIvor Highway is a key route connecting Junortoun to Bendigo and Heathcote and is currently used by approximately 14,000 vehicles per day as well as active transport users (walkers and cyclists). The Victorian Government has provided $3.5 million to investigate options to increase capacity and safety for all road users.

Benefits

Improvements to this road would:

  • increase capacity
  • increase safety particularly for overtaking and intersections
  • provide active transport options for walking and cycling
  • improve freight efficiency
  • cater for future population growth.
