We’re investigating this key section of the McIvor Highway from Reservoir Road, Strathdale to Longlea Lane, Longlea to plan for future growth, ensuring that all road users experience a safe and efficient drive, ride or walk.

Update – April 2020

We announced in March that we would be counting the number of pedestrians and cyclists in the Junortoun and Strathfieldsaye areas. In light of recent circumstances, we are postponing this study to a time when more normal levels of walking and cycling are present. This will ensure that we have accurate information. We’ll be updating this page with more information when the walking and cycling counts are rescheduled.

McIvor Highway is a key route connecting Junortoun to Bendigo and Heathcote and is currently used by approximately 14,000 vehicles per day as well as active transport users (walkers and cyclists). The Victorian Government has provided $3.5 million to investigate options to increase capacity and safety for all road users.

Improvements to this road would:

  • increase capacity
  • increase safety particularly for overtaking and intersections
  • provide active transport options for walking and cycling
  • improve freight efficiency
  • cater for future population growth.
