Update - February 2021

The road will remain closed to the public until stabilisation works are completed.

We understand this is incredibly frustrating for people living and travelling in the area, and thank you for your patience.

Over the past month, our geotechnical engineers have been on the ground investigating long-term improvements, while also working to prevent further deterioration.

The landslip has occurred on the northern side of Deviation Road, between the roadside and residential properties. Specialist equipment will be required to move materials into position at the site.

We expect long-term stabilisation works to start in February, and anticipate it will take around three months to complete, weather permitting.

We are doing everything we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.

Traffic impact

Please allow an extra 10-minutes for your journey, and obey the reduced speed limits.

Detours are currently in place via Minerva Road, Autumn Street, McCurdy Road and Hyland Street, with roadblocks at the intersections of Hyland Street/Deviation Road and Minerva Road/Aberdeen Street.

During peak times traffic controllers will be at the intersection of Hyland Street and Gaylard Avenue.

To help improve road safety in nearby streets, we have temporarily reduced the speed limit to 40km/h at:

  • McCurdy Road to include the intersections of Hyland Street and Autumn Street
  • Church Street to include the intersection of McCurdy Road and Sladen Street.

A temporary pedestrian refuge will be established on McCurdy Road between Hyland Street and Autumn Street, to make it safer for people crossing the road.

Increased traffic is expected on the detour route until Deviation Road reopens. Please drive to the conditions and be mindful of residents entering/exiting their driveways, and pedestrians crossing the road.

We will continue to monitor traffic surrounding the area and may adjust traffic management if required.

Pedestrians – please do not enter

Deviation Road is temporarily closed to the public, including pedestrians and cyclists, while we work to clear and stabilise the area.

For the safety of the community, residents and our workers, please do not enter or cross Deviation Road until further notice. We thank you for your interest and patience.

We will continue to monitor traffic flow surrounding the area and may adjust traffic management if required.

Please allow an extra 10-minutes travel time as delays are expected via the detours.
